Marques Armstrong and Nekima Levy-Pounds are a dynamic husband and wife team seeking to further their impact within the broader community and to serve as catalysts for racial, social, and economic justice. Marques and Nekima have a robust combination of business, legal, media, social services, academic, faith-based, and community experience that will contribute to the overall vitality, social, and economic well being of Twin Cities community and beyond. Marques and Nekima have also stood together on the front lines fighting for racial justice, and advocating for social and public policy changes.

Nekima Levy-Pounds, Esq. 

Owner/Principal Consultant

Rev. Dr. Nekima Levy-Pounds is a civil rights attorney, freedom fighter, legal scholar, blogger, and nationally recognized expert on issues at the intersections of race, public policy, economic justice, public education, juvenile justice, and the criminal justice system. She is the author of several articles and essays focused on racial justice, poverty, incarceration, and the War on Drugs. Her work has been featured in The Associated Press, The Crisis Magazine, Huffington Post, and the Star Tribune, to name a few. She has appeared on national news outlets such as CNN, PBS, Al Jazeera America, News One, and HuffPost Live.

Currently, she is co-owner and co-founder of Black Pearl, LLC, a multi-faceted company that provides business consulting, talent management, and media management services. In 2016, she received the Distinguished Service Award from the Governor’s Commission on Martin Luther King Day. In 2015, she was named one of “40 Under 40” by Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal. In 2014, she was named a “Minnesota Attorney of the Year” by Minnesota Lawyer and recognized as one of “50 Under 50 Most Influential Law Professors of Color in the Country” by Lawyers of Color Magazine. She formerly served as a law professor at the University of St. Thomas Law School for thirteen years, as president of the Minneapolis NAACP, and as an adviser to Black Lives Matter Minneapolis. Most recently, she announced her candidacy for Mayor of the city of Minneapolis.

Marques Armstrong

Principal Consultant

Marques Armstrong, attended Metropolitan State University and has 20 years of experience serving the community through multiple businesses that he successfully operated in the Twin Cities. Marques has a breadth of knowledge and experience in developing and implementing business strategies that help to create revenue growth, increase staff capacity, and streamline the day to day business operations within businesses and organizations. 

Additionally, Marques has a wealth of experience working with youth and families in the capacities of mental health case manager, mental health practitioner, youth and family advocate, and youth counselor and group facilitator. By carefully and methodically tuning in to the needs of each individual, he learned the importance of listening with his entire being and working to build relationships.

Marques previously served as a child development technician and behavioral specialist for Minneapolis Public Schools. He was also the facilitator for the Men of Zion, Young Dad’s Program and a member of the Minneapolis Public Schools Mental Health Collaborative, ensuring service coordination across social service organizations and agencies. Marques is a trained community organizer and public policy advocate and has stood on the front lines in the fight for justice, police reform, equality and human rights. Most recently, Marques served as Program Director for a housing agency that served men who experienced and/or were at risk of long term homelessness.
